The Entrepreneur's Secret on FOX Business News on The Willis Report

I did in fact make it back to Orlando in time to be on FOX Business News last night, and really enjoyed getting to talk with Gerri Willis live on-air (even if we did end up talking over each other a couple times :)). I got to share a few insights from my book as well as some practical things small business owners can do to build wealth for themselves. We were able to get the clip from FOX Business News this morning, so you can watch for yourself if you missed it live last night…

Like I said yesterday — short and sweet. If you’d like to know more about what business owners should be doing to create wealth, pick up a copy of The Entrepreneur’s Secret to Creating Wealth. And if you buy two or more copies (hopefully one to share with a fellow business owner or client), I’ll donate all net proceeds to the NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation. Just send me a copy of your receipt, and we’ll make the donation on your behalf.

Thanks again for reading, watching, and sharing. More successful entrepreneurs means more growth and stability for our economy, and that’s something we can all get behind.

Dedicated to Your Continued Success,

P.S. Presumably as a result of my appearance last night, the book just hit #1, #2, and #3 in three different sales categories on Amazon.com. Maybe it’s time you pick up a copy? :)

Thanks for sharing…congrats. Watched the clip…you did great.

    • Chris Hurn says:

      Thanks, Ed.

  2. Ann Hutchens says:

Chris, I experienced you as direct and knowledgeable, also encouraging of small business owners. I tweeted the interview, too.
You seemed serious; I did not experience the extent of warmth that I do when in person. However, that may not have been you. Congratulations upon an excellent interview.

    • Chris Hurn says:

Thanks, Ann. Sometimes it’s difficult to be extremely “personal” looking into a black box, not even a TV monitor with your interviewer on it. Oh well… :)

  3. Robert Stone says:

I really enjoy your blog. Any news on the SBA re-upping the 504 refinance program?

    • Chris Hurn says:

Nada, Bobby. You’ll probably here it here first, however. Let me know what you think of my book. Thanks for watching.

  4. Anne Apicella says:

You did great! It was the host who talked over you, not the other way around…

    • Chris Hurn says:

Thanks, Anne. It’s all good. :)

Let me know what you think of my book.

  5. Tim Murphy says:

I love the interview on Fox. You did great…even if Gerri talked over you.

We have been connected for a long-time, but have not actually sat down to get to know each other so I can learn how I could help you. Let me know when we could schedule a time for a cup of coffee sometime after February 12th. I live in Winter Springs, but travel all over Orlando. Let me know what is good for you as I look forward to meeting you in person.

  6. Alan Rahman says:

I just watched your interview on Fox. You did great!
Send me your the information about your products, guidelines, criteria and requirements etc asap so that we can also promote your products to our clients.

  8. Bill Hammond says:

    Awesome Chris!!!! Congrats.

    • Chris Hurn says:

      Thanks Bill!

  9. Kristie Walker says:

I watched the video….you did great. Even with Gerri interrupting.
I will consider picking up a book. I really like the idea of owning the space that you have your business….makes sense if you qualify to do it, especially in this market.

    • Chris Hurn says:

Glad to hear it, Kristie. Many thanks!

  10. Carolyn Skog says:

Congratulations on a terrific interview! You didn’t look stiff at all . . . more like a polished professional. :)

  11. Charles Randle says:

Thank you so much! This is awesome and very timely! We will get this clip out to all possible attendees for your visit event.

    • Chris Hurn says:

Sounds like a plan. Let’s bump that attendance up, considerably!

  12. Charles Liles says:

Geof! When will you get some airtime????

Great interview and the most compelling part to me was the information pertaining to being a “green” company and how this can help companies qualify for funds in excess of the SBA cap.

I miss you guys and hope things are going well.

    • Chris Hurn says:

Thanks, Charlie! You gotta get Geof off his iPad, then maybe he’ll get some airtime! :)

  13. Mike Ocasio says:

Great job on the tube yesterday!

  14. Wendy Avila says:

Thank you so much for sharing the blog link to your appearance last evening on the Willis Report. I tried to get home in time to watch the 6pm PST version, but must have just missed you. Now I will catch it.

Don’t worry about “talking over each other” on those appearances. I think it happens in most interviews and is a result of the “sound bite” time allotment they give each guest or subject matter. Is it a statement on our society that has the attention span of a gnat? Probably…..

I have ordered your book but ashamed to say I have not yet read it. I have vacation coming in 10 days and plan to dive into it while on the Hawaiian shores. :) Wealth and seashores and mai tai’s somehow go hand in hand I feel. Maybe that is covered in one of the chapters. :) I will look for the EBC reference! Shame on Phil and Aaron – I have not heard that we ordered multiple copies but it is on my “gift list” this year after I read it. Thought it would be a good gift to deliver on Funding Day for my borrowers. Thank you!

Are you attending NADCO in San Diego? I will be this year and would welcome the opportunity to meet in person.

    • Chris Hurn says:

Thanks, Wendy. Buy copies to give away to POTENTIAL borrowers — will make them BETTER borrowers for you. :)

I look forward to meeting soon. Stay on Phil and Aaron! :)

      • Wendy Avila says:

        Well said. Will do.

        Thanks, Chris.

  15. Dick says:

Great see you then. What is your cell phone? Left you that message before.

  16. Pat Berline says:

Great job! Very professional, easy to listen to and understand! She talked over you!!!!

  17. Joey Poltor says:

I love to see fellow real estate business professionals really focusing on the business. We are probably a lot alike or maybe I could learn a lot from you. What is the #1 most important aspect of creating a super successful business to you? (pigheaded discipline, innovation, marketing, etc) If you had to pick one, what would it be? Thanks http://www.REDMpro.com Real Estate Innovative Internet Marketing

    • Chris Hurn says:

Effective Marketing – that’s the one thing that “super-successful businesses” do better than their peers.

  18. Brian Fricke says:

Well done! Did you notice a spike in book sales? Web traffic etc?

  19. Lewis Atkinson says:

I was going to call your office today to leave a message on the Fox Interview. Not only was it very informative but the interaction between you and Gerri Willis was great.

While I have not been able to send any projects to you over the past two years because of two stokes I experienced, I look forward to working with you and your company in the near future.

    • Chris Hurn says:

Thank you, Lewis. I hope you’re doing better now. Let me know what you think of the book.

  20. Chris Hurn says:

Yes, hit #1, #2, and #3 today in my top categories on Amazon! Completely unexpected!

  21. Heather Cline says:

My husband/business partner, Brian, and I watched the clip. It was good info and she DID talk over you! Maybe you are used to that as I assume you’ve been on her show before. I’ve read your book, so it wasn’t new info for me but it was good for Brian to hear it (he’s not a big reader) from the source. Thank you.

    • Chris Hurn says:

Thanks, Heather. And thanks for buying the book. Post of short review on Amazon or B&N if you get a chance – that would be VERY helpful. Take care.

  22. Matt Hamilton says:

Thanks for the email Chris. Keep up the great work, you will soon have your own show.

    • Chris Hurn says:

:) your words to God’s ears. :) Should have gotten the book for Dave!

  23. TTina Holden says:

My Wish is for you to find 30 minutes of your time to meet with me:) As follow up to the launch of your book. Got packaged opportunities would like to discuss and yes would love to have my signed copy too:)

  24. Kathy Latham says:

Nice job Chris on your interview. I thought you did an excellent job and wish you continued success with your book.

I greatly appreciate your e-mails and sharing of information.

    • Chris Hurn says:

Thank you, Kathy. I hope you check out the book, and likewise, that we have a chance to work together in 2013.

  25. Vinny Muratore says:

I look forward to seeing you next week.

  26. Dave Frenchak says:

I watched your brief appearance on Fox and found my self wondering if you have done any thinking or work about how this type of thinking might work for Not for Profits organizations? If you have I would like to talk.

    • Chris Hurn says:

Thanks for your comment, Dave, but unfortunately this type of financing is only available for for-profit companies.

      • Dave Frenchak says:

        Thanks for responding.

  27. Kevin M. Robertson says:

    Well done Chris!

  28. Feroze Fazwani says:

Thank you very much for sharing the information. I am very much interested to learn about green and government subsidiary. Please advice.
Once again thank you very much.

  29. James Gasperowich says:

    Thanks Chris.

  32. Mike Sekerak says:

Chris, you did a $3.2M interim for us on a SBA 504 refi about a year ago. Landerhaven Hotel Venture. Why did they gov shut that refi program down?

    • Chris Hurn says:

Because they’re CLEARLY not very smart about stuff like this. That’s the short answer. I spent the better part of last year trying to get an extension to the SBA 504 refinance program – still working on it. We’ll see. Don’t bet any money on it, however – it’s FAR too common-sensical for Washington. :)

      • Mike Sekerak says:

Thanks. Keep up the good fight.

(I have a friend who runs a for profit trade school. MANY gov’t regs affect him that don’t affect not for profit. I am afraid this administration’s “support” of small business is lip service and lies and a ruse.)

        • Chris Hurn says:

I don’t disagree with your assessment, Mike, but in fairness, I think most pols give small biz lip service. We need some champions for that important sector of our economy in Washington.

  33. Cary Berman says:

Congrats Chris! Nice piece and great press for MCC!

    • Chris Hurn says:

      Thanks, Cary.

  34. Ron Aguilar says:

Chris, thanks for all your insight, your the best!

    • Chris Hurn says:

      Thanks, Ron.

  35. Todd Hudson says:

Great Job Chris!!! Can we call you Hollywood now?

    • Chris Hurn says:

Not until I get my own show, Todd. :)

  36. Vishal Amin says:

Congrats on being on fox business. Great interview.

  37. David Perry says:

I appreciate Mercantile Capital Corporation, you, and your communication skills in keeping in touch with your customers. I also appreciate your professional staff and I even visited your office during our loan process. I have just one complaint and I have wanted to take the time to give you the actual details. However, I am not going to take the time to go through the initial package and the actual closing statements to make my case as we closed back in May of 2012. I believe that our closing costs were about twice as much as we anticipated from your initial paperwork. In particular, the CDC costs were way higher than we anticipated and significantly more than they disclosed.

Having said that, I would be happy to be involved with Mercantile Capital in the future and I appreciate your contribution to the small business man. I would like to tell you that it costs a lot more to close a SBA 504 loan than you suggest in your pre-loan documents and it would do you well to study the actual costs to the consumer and make that known up front. I don’t think this would discourage any of your clients and they would be more prepared and appreciative at the time of the transaction. Thinking back, it seems like a lot of the costs were added to the loan amount as if they were not costs at all. An entrepreneur understands that he will be paying those costs even if it is not cash at closing.

I thought you might like the feedback.

  38. Pete Ingebrand says:

    Great interview!

Let’s touch base re frank et al.

    • Chris Hurn says:

Let’s schedule some time this coming week to do so. Thanks.

Where’s your book review on Amazon, btw. :)

  39. Lee Gettling says:

    You did great Chris.

  40. Mark Lieblich says:

    Good job, Chris!

  41. Troy says:

I enjoyed seeing and hearing from you. I did vote for you on the last program you were involved with(by the way). I would like to get a hard copy of the book if possible. I was supposed to get a link(I never use them) for a digital copy. I used to sell businesses and still have a license(agent) with all my connections. Just spoke to friend that is selling his biz for 3 mill. and another sold his in 2008 for 200 mill to Zip local.

    • Chris Hurn says:

Thanks for your comments, Troy. Robin will send you a link to the book on Amazon. Thanks.

  42. Nancy Meyer says:

You did a great job! She’s tough. You held on very well. Congrats!

    • Chris Hurn says:

Thanks, Nancy! Hope you check out the book, too.

  43. Justin Jeffries says:

Looks like you did a good job on that interview. Can we get on the phone about the Green SBA deal. My group is building Urgent Cares and Senior housing project in the SE and I would love to learn more about this Green deal.

  44. Brian Sommers says:

I thought you did a great job! I’ll share this on LinkedIn to all my connections for you.

    • Chris Hurn says:

Thanks, Brian. Please do. And I hope you get a copy of the book as well. Take care.

  45. Ron McCord says:

Chris: Nice Job! Keep up the good work!

    • Chris Hurn says:

      Thanks, Ron!

  46. Mike Sekerak says:

Big government on both sides of aisle likes big biz that’s for sure, (read: bailouts) leaving us small guys to just hunker down and work our butts off. Thanks.

  47. Dan Yachter says:

Great interview Chris…good job! Very composed. Thanks for bringing value!

Proud to serve you and your family.

    • Chris Hurn says:

      Thanks, Dr. Dan!

  48. Francie says:

Loved the interview! I thought you did a great job. However, Gerri frustrated me interrupting you!!

    • Chris Hurn says:

      Thanks, Francie!
